Day 1
- Principals of Photography and basic Zone System. Ansel Adams was famous worldwide, in part, because of the Zone System he developed for film based photography. You will learn how the principals of this system can be applied with today's digital cameras to achieve stunning results with exceptional tonal range and clarity.
- Calibration and Custom Camera Profiles. Using your own camera, you'll shoot your own calibration tests and create a custom camera profile you will use as the basis for Adobe Camera Raw techniques.
- Photoshop Lightroom Workflow Setup. You'll set up a Lightroom catalog for the workshop and import your Zone system calibration files to begin evaluating for camera profiles. You'll then shoot more photography as necessary to improve your profile and correct for mistakes. These calibration tests will reveal the true dynamic range of your specific camera.
- Creating and Installing Custom Camera Profiles. You will create custom color calibration "profiles" and install these for use in Lightroom or ACR - you will also learn how to adjust the profile to achieve different effects such as customizing the rendering of skin tones.
- Reshooting, corrections, backing up images and catalogs, and additional hands-on exercises.
Day 2
- Mastering Exposure, the fundamentals of image capture. You'll learn to evaluate the useable dynamic range of your camera and use this information to make better exposure decisions.
- Lightroom Workflow. You'll create a collection for your camera tests, create a metadata template and camera default settings and keyword your photos. You'll learn other methods for importing images into your catalog and develop a comprehensive image organization system.
- Image Enhancement Workflow. You'll learn image enhancements in Lightroom, endpoint adjustments, white balance, Fill-Light & Recovery, basic color, contrast and noise reduction in preparation for final work in Photoshop.
- Introduction to the 10 Channel Workflow - You'll learn the exclusive image enhancement workflow based on the unique channel structure of the image as it exists in RGB, Lab and CMYK.
- Archiving Principals. You'll work more extensively with your catalogs and backup and archive all your work up to this point.
Day 3
- 10 Channel Workflow Step-by-Step. You'll work along with Lee and the other people in the class with a full image enhancement on two sample images.
- Finalizing the image for print - You'll get real-world, hands-on experience working on your own images to set final end-points, color "by the numbers" and sharpen for final prints. You'll build a custom print template in Lightroom and make a "print-to-file" jpeg.
- Final wrap up/Review - You'll get an opportunity to have your own questions answered, listen to questions from other professionals attending your workshop, have your images evaluated, back up all the work you've done, and participate in a discussion of all of the techniques learned. You can elect to stay for an optional final dinner depending on your travel schedule.
