Obtaining Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit

Ledet Training delivers high-quality, vendor authorized structured training programs focussed on business professionals actively engaged in their careers.  Ledet Training is therefore considered a professional continuing education provider.  The majority of our class participants are employed professionals whose employer is investing in and sponsoring professional skills development and continuing education for their staff.

Professional continuing education is a specific learning activity generally characterized by the issuance of a certificate of continuing education units (CEU) for the purpose of documenting attendance of a designated course of instruction. The term continuing education unit (CEU) is used by a number of organizations such as professional career licensing bodies to recognize participation in non-credit classes, courses, and programs such as those offered by Ledet Training.

What Exactly is a CEU?

Continuing education units, or CEUs, are awarded by many education and training providers to signify successful completion of non-credit programs and courses intended to improve the knowledge and skills of working adults.  Among the most common uses of CEUs are to record refresher, transitional, or knowledge improvement accomplishments for professional workers. They are used mostly to satisfy employer and state licensure and certification requirements. CEUs also may be helpful to document specific job-related skills (such as on a resume or social media profile).

One CEU is defined as 10-contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. Most class offerings from Ledet Training consist of 6 hours of qualified instructor-led, structured training per day and therefore qualify for .6 hours of CEU per class day.

Licensing bodies in a number of fields (such as teaching, architecture, and healthcare, for example) impose continuing education requirements on members who hold licenses to continue practicing a particular profession. These requirements are intended to encourage professionals to expand their foundations of knowledge and stay up-to-date on new developments, which is exactly where Ledet Training focuses. Depending on the industry, these requirements may be satisfied through attendance of Ledet Training classes.

CEUs are not equivalent to college credits.  For more information on how you can earn college credit for some of the classes and certifications available from Ledet Training, see ACE CREDIT - Earn College Credit

Other Continuing Education Requirements and terminology

Some professions use designations other than CEU for continuing education requirements. Typically, these are terms that refer to learning on a 1 hour of contact time with an instructor equals 1 hour of credit. For example, architects sometimes use CEH which stans for Continuing Education Hour. Continuing Education Hours are equal to 1 contact hour with a qualified instructor. CEHs are also sometimes referred to as LUs which stand for Learning Units, PDH which stands for Professional Development Hours, or PDC which stands for Professional Development Credit. Some industries and organization just track continuing education directly as “contact hours”.

Some industries call their continuing education requirements by other names to like CPC which stands for continuing professional competency.
